Digital cinema leader to bring performance event to Barco Escape theaters in early 2015; Featuring songs from Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s new record, CHEEK TO CHEEK
Kortrijk, Belgium, 25 September 2014 – Barco, the worldwide market share leader in digital cinema projection, will release their first theatrical live music event in Barco Escape format, presenting a special performance event with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. Barco Escape is the company’s new multi-screen, 270-degree panoramic movie format. In association with Universal Music/Interscope Records, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s live performance, held in Brussels on September 22nd, will be presented as a limited edition theatrical release in Barco Escape theaters in early 2015. Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga performed songs from their new record, CHEEK TO CHEEK, at the Grande Place plaza in front of a live audience. Their new album Cheek To Cheek is now available globally.
“Barco is committed to working with our partners to create innovative and compelling ways for audiences to enjoy the cinema experience,” says Todd Hoddick, Vice President of Global Cinema for Barco. “To me, going to the cinema is a magical experience, but with so many entertainment options available, not everyone thinks about movies that way anymore. Because the Barco Escape technology surrounds the audience, immersing them in the experience, we think it will remind people that the cinema is an exciting entertainment destination. Whether it’s a movie, a concert, video gaming or something else, the Barco Escape experience gives audiences something they can’t get anywhere but at their local cinema.”
Corrino Media Group has partnered with Barco and is executive producing the project. They are multi-faceted in creative content and are global experts in cinematic quality live event production. Barco Escape technology debuted this past week at Cinemark Theatres in five exclusive U.S. cities with 20th Century Fox’s “The Maze Runner”, which features select scenes in the new format. “The Maze Runner” was shot like a traditional film and key scenes were edited for the immersive Barco Escape experience leading up to its release. The movie is also the latest blockbuster to be mixed in Auro 11.1 immersive sound by Barco. Barco Escape will make its European debut in Belgium at select Kinepolis locations on October 15.
Barco also recently announced it would be featured as sample content on the new Samsung Gear VR, offering viewers everywhere a glimpse of this new movie going experience through Virtual Reality.
