Barco Auro 11.1 3D sound technology will be featured in global release of DreamWorks Animation's 'Rise of the Guardians'
Kortrijk, Belgium, 5 October 2012 – Barco, a global leader in digital cinema technology, is proud to announce that DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (Nasdaq: DWA) has selected the Barco Auro 11.1 3D sound format for the global release of their upcoming 3D animated feature film, ‘Rise of the Guardians’, coming to theaters on 21 November 2012.
Leading cinema technology
“The fact that DreamWorks Animation – the world’s leading animation studio – has selected our revolutionary Auro 11.1 3D sound technology for the sound mix of their next animation movie is truly a great honor for us,” comments Brian Claypool, Senior Director of Strategic Business Development of Barco’s Entertainment Division. “We are committed to providing the movie industry with the most innovative and comprehensive suite of products and solutions to treat audiences to the ultimate moviegoing experience.”
Extra dimension of sound
“Barco's superior technology will add an extra dimension of sound to ‘Rise of the Guardians’ and further elevate its memorable score by Academy Award-nominated composer Alexandre Desplat," said DreamWorks Animation's Chief Marketing Officer, Anne Globe. "We believe these dynamics will serve to immerse audiences across the globe even deeper into the adventure-filled world created by our filmmakers."
‘Rise of the Guardians’
DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Rise of the Guardians’ is an epic adventure that tells the story of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost – legendary heroes, each with extraordinary abilities. When an evil spirit known as Pitch threatens to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of all children on earth.
Three layers of sound
The Auro 11.1 3D sound format is designed along three layers of sound (Surround, Height, Overhead) rather than the two layers used in the traditional 5.1 sound format. Thanks to its 11.1 configuration, the technology not only enables sound mixers to move objects around in space but it also allows them to reproduce the immersive aspects of a film soundtrack in a way that is more compatible with their current workflow. The Auro 11.1 3D sound technology provides the best acoustical experience at the most commercially viable price point in the market and does so without the need to create object-based soundtracks that are designed to be optimized for the consumer market.
