Barco CEO Eric Van Zele Manager of the Year 2012
Barco is proud to announce that its President and CEO, Eric Van Zele, has been elected Manager of the Year 2012. The Belgian Manager of the Year award is a joint initiative of the business magazine Trends, TV channel Kanaal Z, and the Flemish Management Association (Vlaamse Management Associatie). The award spotlights the past year’s best-performing manager and is a key event for Belgium’s business world. Eric Van Zele succeeds Telenet CEO Duco Sickinghe on the list of winners.
Today, Barco’s CEO, Eric Van Zele, was elected Manager of the Year 2012. In the jury’s report, Mr. Van Zele is praised for his strong leadership skills, with which he helped Barco weather the crisis year 2009, and for the vision and acumen with which he turned Barco into a truly international company, seizing growth opportunities worldwide and achieving profitable double-digit growth for the company over the last three years.
Eric Van Zele commented: “I’m extremely honored to receive this award on behalf of the Barco community. This award really recognizes the hard work we’ve done over the last few years, and I would like to dedicate it to our 3,700 employees for going the extra mile, day in day out, to make this happen. We successfully changed the company’s strategic directions, growing beyond visualization into a true AV company – and for the first time in the company’s long history, we broke through the one billion euro sales barrier.”
For the Manager of the Year award, an independent jury of academics, journalists and captains of industry shortlists 10 managers who have demonstrated exceptional leadership. A number of criteria are considered, including the company’s financial performance, corporate governance, management style, and collaboration with the management team.
Eric Van Zele, who was also shortlisted for the 2011 award, joins an impressive list of winners that includes: Duco Sickinghe (Telenet, 2011), Bert De Graeve (Bekaert, 2009), Martine Reynaers (Reynaers Aluminium, 2003), Roos Claeys and Albert Bert (Kinepolis, 1997), and Hugo Vandamme (Barco, 1988). This is the second time that a Barco CEO has been elected, and Barco is now one of the only three companies that have won the award twice.
