Explore the decisions, challenges and implementation lessons behind Michigan Medicine’s use of slide QC
How do you make slide quality control (QC) part of everyday laboratory practice? The decisions extend from defining which artifacts matter to reviewing flagged slides, identifying when human input is needed and preparing the team for a new workflow.
Join Dr. Mustafa Yousif of Michigan Medicine for a practical look at how the team implemented slide QC and where automated tools, including SlideRightQA, Barco’s software for automated quality review of whole slide images, fit within it. The session will explore the team’s approach to human review and where QC fits within Michigan Medicine’s digital pathology program.
Whether you are implementing QC, evaluating automated tools or reviewing an existing process, the discussion will offer practical considerations to bring back to your team.
What you will learn
- Identify common whole slide image quality failures and how they affect diagnosis and downstream AI.
- Describe how to split QC between automated screening and human review.
- Discuss how to set thresholds, rescan criteria and validation when implementing an automated QC tool.
- Apply lessons from implementation and daily use to your own laboratory, including limitations and failure modes.
