The Her Universe Fashion Show 2024, held in July at Comic-Con International in San Diego, was a dazzling spectacle. This year’s show was all about celebrating the timeless charm of Mattel's most beloved products, including Barbie, Polly Pocket, Uno, and Hot Wheels. At the heart of this vibrant display was a stellar projection mapping with the Barco UDX.

Context
Her Universe, founded by Ashley Eckstein, is famed for its innovative fashion and lifestyle products that cater to fandom communities. The brand’s 2024 fashion show was particularly special, marking a decade of the Her Universe Fashion Show and celebrating significant anniversaries for Mattel’s iconic brands – 65 years of Barbie, 35 years of Polly Pocket, and nearly 80 years of Mattel’s legacy. Eckstein said the collaboration was organic as the brands have an existing licensing relationship, with Her Universe producing official licensed Mattel merchandise. The runway was a colorful tribute to Mattel’s enduring influence on pop culture.
Challenge
This year’s show featured 25 talented participants, each competing for a chance to design a fashion collection with Her Universe. Specifically, the team needed a projector that could handle the complex task of projecting various outfits onto a life-sized Barbie figure. The intricate, vibrant fashion designs inspired by Mattel’s classics required exceptional brightness, razor-sharp image quality and spot-on color representation. Any glitches could detract from the illusion.

Her Universe’s creative vision, AOA’s special effects wizardry, and Barco’s technical proficiency coalesced to create a smooth blend between fashion and technology.
With the UDX-W40 projector, the Her Universe team could ensure the mapped outfits sparkled with clarity and stunning colors. This allows every detail to be seen clearly, enhancing the visual impact of the show. Thanks to the precise color reproduction, the designs are displayed faithfully and vividly, bringing the designers’ visions to life in the most accurate way.
