Barco has been selected to be part of the immersive technologies panel session at the Army Science & Technology Symposium, which will take place in Washington, DC on Wednesday, August 22, from 1:00-2:00 PM.

Thought leaders, researchers, and training experts will meet there to discuss emerging technologies for the Army which enable effective and affordable capabilities for ensuring success on the battlefield and beyond.

Addressing the theme: EMPOWERING A SOLDIER'S SUCCESS, Barco’s VP Simulation, Dave Fluegeman will discuss the highly important aspect of immersive audio in training.

"We perceive our world and surroundings through sound as much as sight, giving us a true 360 degree perspective of our environment. Sound has a major impact on where we focus our sight and is an integral part of the decision making process. It is the only real information carrier between humans and other parts of our world. Recognizing the importance of sound and the value it can provide for the quality of training is an important first step in developing standards for audio similar to the standards that already exist for image quality."
Dave Fluegeman, VP Simulation

Barco’s argument is that with the right solutions and content, the level of immersion will be elevated, truly transferring the trainee into the virtual world with aural and sight senses fully and equally engaged.  This can only lead to better training environments, making trainees more prepared for their missions than ever.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Rear Admiral James A. Robb, USN (Ret.), President of the National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA).
