How mammography displays impact a radiologist’s reading routine
Multimodality workflow in breast imaging
Several studies have shown that detection of breast cancers is more accurate when combining multiple types of breast studies. When screening dense breasts, for example, mammography alone is not enough. Additional imaging methods, such as breast tomosynthesis, breast MR or ultrasound are required. And in some places it is now a requirement to use an imaging technique other than 2D mammography alone.
Viewing color modalities such as breast ultrasound and MRI requires a color mammography display system. In addition, the colors presented on screen need to be consistent and calibrated. This is already the case for grayscale images where DICOM GSDF defines the accuracy of the image. 2D vs 3D mammography
You should also verify that the display is designed for 3D mammography. It can take more time to diagnose digital breast tomosynthesis studies than 2D mammography exams because radiologists must scroll or cine through many images or slices.
At the same time, it is more challenging to clearly detect microcalcifications in moving images. Reduced eye fatigue
