How A Luxury Manufacturer Got Interior Designers to Love Home Tech

Imagine you’re co-sponsoring an event for top designers who are vying to win Hilton’s “Ultimate Luxury Hotel Room” contest. The participants have 24 hours to develop a winning concept which will later be erected at the big Hospitality Design Expo (owned by CE Pro’s new parent company, Emerald Expo).

Designers can brainstorm and work with any of two-dozen vendors sponsoring the event, including design-centric staples like Kohler, PPG Pittsburgh Paints, Restoration Hardware and Serta.

There is a glass-door manufacturer on the vendor roster, as well as a fine-art purveyor, fabric supplier, tile manufacturer, and a popular provider of furniture and flourishes for the hospitality industry.

And then there’s you, a maker of high-end video projectors.

Who do you think is going to be the least popular kid at the design party?

Bob Archer's (CE Pro) post-show report

Perhaps the most impressive company on the entire show floor was Barco. In its demo room, which also featured Auro sound, the company demonstrated its 6P laser projector. It showed everyone just how convincing 1080p and non-HDR 4K content could look through a calibrated, high-performance projector. Barco’s 6P laser projector produced an impressive dynamic range, inky, rich colors and deep blacks. When combined with the Auro sound and the “Star Wars” trailer it was running, it’s not hard to imagine that George Lucas himself would walk away in awe.

Michael Bay home theater

Movie director Michael Bay outfits home theater with Barco projection

Michael Bay recently selected a 4K Barco projector for what he describes as “one of the very best home theaters in the world” in his newly constructed East Gate Bel Air, California home.

“I’ve worked with Barco for 15 years, it’s my projector of choice,” comments Bay. “When I present my large-scale films to audiences for screening, I bring in Barco equipment. I obviously wanted the very latest and best technical specs out there – and with the image being the most important thing to me – I knew my theater had to have a Barco projector. It is simply the best.”
Barco Residential at ISE 2015

ISE 2015 - Amsterdam

At ISE 2015 we showcased the brand-new Orion Cinemascope projector. This compact projector with native Cinemascope resolution offers unrivalled image quality and thanks to its auto-cropping and HDBaseT features, easy integration is guaranteed. What’s more, the M version provides stunning images even in rooms with lots of ambient light.

In collaboration with Cyviz we set up a high-end executive home office/media room where we demonstrated three blended projectors (2 x Optix MKII and 1 x Optix Cinemascope with our WB560 Warp and Blend Unit), using an intuitive user interface to manipulate multiple content sources.

At the sound demo room, we presented the Proximity audio technology which allows for highly accurate sound localization. With Proximity, sounds have never been closer or more intense. Imagine what this unique technology could do for your dedicated gaming room or as an add-on to your home theater or media room!

CEDIA Expo 2014 - Denver

From 10-13 September, together with our partner Display Development, Barco Residential was present at CEDIA Expo 2014 in Denver (USA). Visitors to our booth experienced a range of residential architectural video solutions, including 4K and a rear-projection custom setup powered by Barco’s brand-new Orion Cinemascope with a unique ultra-short throw lens. This unique solution opens up new space-saving opportunities for high-end condos, where space is at a premium and installation of conventional solutions is a challenge. We also welcomed many guests to celebrate Barco’s 80th anniversary at a VIP event at the historic Denver Clock Tower.
