Article number: [5231] - Legacy code: [6459]

Applicable to

Symptom

While performing simple tasks the workstation seems to freeze, and occasionally the monitor/s will go dark for a few seconds and then it comes back, or a BSOD.

In the event logs, the following two errors are logged:

  • 'Warning 4101 [Display] 'Display driver b8dkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.'
  • 'Warning [b8dkmdag] RT failed – Not implemented'

Root Cause

We have identified the root cause of the problem to be related to how the driver is handling the ASPM (Active State Power Management) feature of the PCIe interface.

Solution

Installation of the latest driver while using Barco System Cleaner prior to that. Check the attached article to find out how you can download the latest MXRT driver.

Workaround

In those cases where upgrading the driver is not an option, we have two workarounds available until such upgrade is approved:

To turn off ASPM for existing installations:

  1. Turn off ASPM in system BIOs. (See manufacturers system BIOS information on how to disable ASPM)
  2. Turn off ASPM in the registry, Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\video{video device GUID}\0000
    • set EnableAspmL0s as a DWORD with 0
    • set EnableAspmL1 as a DWORD with 0
To determine the video device GUID, bring up the "display adapter properties" window for your graphics controller, go to the Details tab, and find "Class Guid".
