Article number: [4054] - Legacy code: [5271]

Wake on Lan (WoL) can be set up in Overture using the Network Utilities driver.

In order for WoL to work properly, please make sure that the following steps are followed:

  • Check if your computer supports WoL.
Also, WoL should be enabled in the BIOS.
To enter the BIOS, press the "Escape", "Delete" or "F2" (depending on your computer). For exact instructions for your computer, please check the manufacturer's website.

  • WoL needs to be enabled in the properties of the network card.
To do this: Open Device Manager > Network Adapters > right-click the network adapter you're using > Properties. Then select the power management tab and check the "Allow this device to wake the computer" box.

Next step in enabling WoL on Windows10 for example select the Advanced tab, scroll down in the property box and select Wake on Magic Value list box, make sure it is enabled then click OK.  This is outlined in the screenshot below as step-wise approach.

  • "Turn on fast startup" needs to be disabled.
This can be done under Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > "Choose what the power buttons do" and uncheck the "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" box.

  • The WoL command may not be sent from a virtual machine.
Please install a Windows Control Server on a physical machine (the machine where you want to send the WoL command from). The Overture Windows Control Server can be downloaded from https://www.barco.com/en/support/software/R330901.

  • Test if the WoL commands get sent, you can simulate receiving with SmartSniff and sending with Advanced IP scanner.

In Overture UX Configurator, add new point from the Points section in Views. Next step is to download and use the latest version of the Network Utilities driver. Follow the steps on how to add points and drivers from Adds-on section in UX in the following article KB11409 and KB8021, respectively.

  • Go to the driver setup and fill in this information:
    • Hostname or IP address: the IP address of the target device.
    • Ping timeout (default 30000 ms)
    • MAC Address: this can be found when running the "ipconfig /all" command in the command prompt. Both notations with colon and dash are supported.
    • Wake-on-LAN Port.
    • Wake-on-LAN IP address (the network's broadcast address)

    • Click "OK" and save the point

  • To test if the WoL functionality is working, please browse to the Control Server (HTTP(S)://OvertureIP:8080) > Devices and select your target. To Wake it on LAN, please change the status from offline to online using the toggle button. If the device wakes up, you have successfully configured Wake on LAN.

Please make sure to use the latest available version for this Network Utilities driver in Overture.
