‘Quality healthcare for all’ is the official slogan of the P.D. Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research center in Mumbai (India). For founder Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, this meant providing world-class medical care to all sections of society. With the regular implementation of new technology, including Barco’s diagnostic and clinical review displays, his successors are honoring his legacy.

It was reassuring for us to learn that Barco, in addition to being a world-class brand, also fostered a strong presence in India

The journey of the ‘P.D.Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre’ started in 1951 to offer support to the countless wounded and displaced in the aftermath of the Partition of India. Over the years, the institution has become a veritable ‘temple of modern healthcare’, with an unquenchable thirst for excellence.

To offer excellent healthcare, the hospital staff also need quality equipment. That’s why the hospital is regularly getting a complete ‘tech refresh’, which comprises both hard- and software components.

A trusted recommendation

“In the lead-up to the latest refresh, we heard that the company providing the monitors at the time intended to discontinue its operations in India,” explains Dr. Jagdish Modhe, Consultant & Head, Department of Imaging at the P.D.Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre. “The absence of immediate technical support was a risk we couldn’t take, so we started looking for a replacement solution. Agfa Healthcare, which has been our technology partner for many years, immediately recommended Barco’s displays.”

Strong presence in India

Dr. Modhe and his team took Agfa’s advice to heart and evaluated several Barco monitors. Modhe: “We were given the chance to try out several demo displays for two months. This allowed us to gain a good understanding of the product quality, which is always the first thing we look at. Other key factors were the brand’s reputation, its track record and its service level. It was reassuring for us to learn that Barco, in addition to being a world-class brand, also fostered a strong presence in India.”

Bright choice

After the decision was made, the changeover to Barco happened in under a week. Modhe: “The project was beautifully executed. The hardware was put up over the weekend, since the radiology department couldn’t be closed for long. All in all, the disturbance to the hospital’s routine was minimal.”

Today, P.D.Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre is equipped with 5 sets or 5 Dual heads of Barco diagnostic displays and 5 clinical review displays. The displays are used for numerous applications, from high-resolution grayscale X-rays, to CT, MR, and even color and 3D imaging.
