Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) currently presents "Highlights", a major exhibition of the Collection of the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. The exhibition presents works by worldclass artists from diverse disciplines, one also featuring Barco's IOSONO immersive .
For the exhibition, the foundation worked together with Korean artists and exclusively commissioned arts pieces in context of the country. One of the commissioned works is "Decades Apart," a short 3D film with 3D audio by PARKing CHANce, the artistic duo of Park Chan-wook and Park Chan-kyong. Filmed at a soon-to-be demolished movie set from 2005, the video contrasts the atmosphere between the two Koreas 12years ago and in the present situation.
For "Decades Apart", PARKing CHANce has conceived an original immersive sound and image installation. Based on the original movie set, new images were filmed for the work and 3D sound was added to surprise the visitor and guarantee a fully immersive experience. “As opposed to the somewhat hopeful mood around the time when the movie was released, North and South Korea’s relationship has deteriorated in the past seventeen years. As if reflecting the current situation, the original set has become a decrepit sight, and even this is soon to be demolished. Through the use of 3D cinematography and the montage of the original soundtrack, we wander around this ghost house that feels like both a reality or a dream, somewhere in between the present and seventeen years ago," the duo describes its work.
SeMA presents "Highlights" from 30 May to 15 August, 2017. As the first exhibition of the Collection of the Fondation Cartier in its 2017 Asian tour, it provides the Korean audience with an opportunity to discover the Collection's world-renowned works.
