Champion boxer gives royal touch to family home theater

Deontay Wilder is known as the Bronze Bomber, a formidable WBA champion boxer renowned for his powerful right-hand punches. What is less known, is that Wilder is also a family man.

When he approached Slayman Design Associates in California to develop and design a home cinema in his villa, he wanted to be able to accommodate all his children for the screenings. He also had precise ideas about the overall design.

Slayman turned a second-story bonus room into an extraordinary modern private theater. The overall impression is regal, featuring lots of dark blue and gold and with his “Bronze Bomber” logo embroidered on the headrest of each chair.

Achieving good sound can be a challenge in home cinemas. “I created decorative panels to break up the walls and allow for speaker locations behind separate fabric panels,” explains Lisa Slayman. The panels and millwork consisted of aniline-dyed dark blue veneer from Italy with flush inset silk fabric and acoustical fabric divided with gold metal reveals.

"A real night sky, including a shooting star"

A feature of the cinema is the “Starry Night” ceiling. Three different sizes of fiber optic lights were used to mimic the look of a real night sky, including a shooting star.

To make the most of the available space, they chose a Seymour Screen Excellence Cinema Scope projection screen. JBL and Revel in-wall concealed speakers and dual subs were specified by DSI.

The Barco Balder projector was chosen for its superb quality, ease of use (handy if young audiences are involved) and its ability to automatically switch to Cinemascope or gaming formats if necessary.

The result is a stylish, comfortable private cinema that will give years of viewing pleasure.
