Barco helps bring a 21st-century digital cinema experience to Bosnia-Herzegovina
In the early nineties, the cinema infrastructure of Mostar, the largest and one of the major cities in Herzegovina, was completely destroyed during the war in the region. The city did not have any major cinema infrastructure for the next 20 years, until the Blitz-Cinestar group, Croatia’s leading cinema chain, opened its Mostar multiplex in July 2012.
Situated within the Mepas Mall shopping center, the five-screen CineStar Mostar theater is Blitz-CineStar’s eleventh multiplex and the first one outside the Croatian border. It fully meets the criteria that Blitz-CineStar specifies for all its complexes: great movies, first-class comfort and state-of-the-art technology. The Mostar multiplex is fully digitized with four DP2K-15c and one DP2K-23b Barco digital cinema projector. On top of that, three screens are equipped with RealD 3D technology and the multiplex features a showcase “CineStar eXtreme” auditorium with a huge 100-square-meter screen.
The Mostar movie-goers were blown away by the new cinema experience. “The reaction of the public to the opening of our five-star multiplex was more than satisfying and much more than we had initially expected. The number of admissions is rising each day. Visitors are very excited about the new technology, like 3D,” said Damir Milinic, managing director of Blitz-CineStar’s operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In addition to the Mostar multiplex, several Blitz-CineStar projects are under development, after which the chain will consist of 14 multiplexes, over 100 screens and 15,500 seats in total - which will make it the largest cinema exhibitor in the markets of former Yugoslavia.
