At Barco, we take sustainability very seriously. That is why we are proud to announce we have joined the Belgian Alliance for Climate Action (BACA), a collective of organizations that commit to aligning their activities with the goals of the Paris Agreement: to keep global warming under 2°C and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C.
The Belgian Alliance for Climate Action is an initiative of WWF Belgium and The Shift, and unites many (over 50 at the time of writing) Belgian organizations that pledge to take the necessary steps towards a CO2-neutral economy. This entails lowering the emission of greenhouse gases, show more climate ambitions, and use Science Based Targets (SBT) to reach the sustainability goals.
“Committing against indifference”
“Acting against climate change is a priority for Barco, we have reduced greenhouse gas emissions from our operations with 20% since 2015, and have recently signed the Business Ambition for 1.5°C Commitment Letter of the Science Based Target Initiative,” says Jan De Witte, CEO of Barco. “By also advocating our commitment, we hope to inspire both other companies and individuals. Together, we can create a broad support for this cause. We believe the Belgian Alliance for Climate Action is a great initiative, and we believe we can still learn a lot from the expertise of other members and the organizers.”
Committing to Science Based Targets
The members of the BACA commit to start the SBT process within a year after their accession to the alliance. Following this, they have 2 more years to validate their targets. Barco has already submitted their targets to Science Based Targets Initiative, and hopes to have them validated by end 2020.
