3.1 The Button App

DisplayPort Alt Mode
DisplayPort alternate mode allows compatible USB-C ports to function as DisplayPort ports. These ports can send DisplayPort signals alongside any other data or power that is normally supported by standard USB ports.
About the Button App

Each paired Button has a Button App installed. During pairing the Button creates a Windows and MacOS partition. Only the partition with the same operating system as the connected device becomes active. The Button App looks and functions like the basic Desktop App. If a Desktop App is installed, then Button App will use the configuration from the Desktop App. In this case, any modifications done using the Button App are saved to the configuration of the Desktop App. When no Desktop App is installed, a default configuration is used by the Button App. Any modifications done to this default configuration are not saved. For more information on how to adjust the configuration, see “Managing the Desktop App or Button App”.

Button App protocols

The Button App must use a protocol to launch on the connected computer. Which protocol is used depends on the generation of the Button:

Linux functionality

The DisplayPort Alt Mode protocol can allow the Button to share the screen using the share button. The Button App installed on the Button can not be used.
