WEEE compliance Ireland
Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Ireland
Under SI 340/2005 Waste Management (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment [WEEE]) Regulations which came into force on August 13th 2005, for equipment that you buy from Barco after August 13th 2005, Barco is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Barco replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE. Under the Regulations, Barco is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Barco after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
Barco products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Barco is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products, Barco has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address. Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs is:
- Barco pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the Waste Management (WEEE) Regulations;
- Barco pays for the costs of data management and reporting to the WEEE Register Society to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the Waste Management (WEEE) Regulations;
- you pay for transportation of your WEEE to Barco's appointed recycler in Ireland.
Barco has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN recycling facility in Ireland. All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Barco products is classed as non-hazardous waste.
It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the recycler. Under the Waste Management Act 1996, you should use the following carrier (which holds a valid Waste Carriers licence):
Waste Carrier | Telephone Number | Website |
Sterile Technologies Ireland Ltd. | +353-1800 937 628 | srcl.ie |
For larger quantities of waste, you may want to contact the recycler directly to arrange and pay for alternative collection methods. The EARN recycling facility in Ireland is:
Recycler | Telephone Number | Website |
KMK Metals Recycling Ltd | 057 934 1634 | www.kmk.ie |
There is no legal requirement that WEEE be accompanied by documentation when transported in Ireland. However, in order to enable EARN to identify Barco equipment upon arrival at the recycler's address, please download the Recycling Label for Irish Customers. Complete the label with your company details and attach it to a suitable box for transport to EARN.
