WEEE Compliance Bulgaria

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Bulgaria

WEEE regulations in Bulgaria were initially implemented in through a WEEE Ordinance and an amendment of the Product Tax Decree, adopted on 30 March and published on 3 May 2006. A new WEEE Ordinance was published 7 November 2013 that came into force 1 January 2014. This Ordinance restricts changes to the current Ordinance (355/2012) to those necessary to transpose the WEEE Recast Directive (2012/19/EU).

Under the legislation in Bulgaria, for equipment that you buy from BARCO, BARCO is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of the waste electrical and electronic equipment that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis, if the old equipment was purchased before 13th August 2005. The old equipment that your new purchase from BARCO replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.

Also, under the legislation in Bulgaria, BARCO is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from BARCO after 13th August 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.

In Bulgaria, BARCO has joined the local collective compliance scheme Greentech Bulgaria to manage all aspects of WEEE collection and recycling. Please contact Greentech Bulgaria directly to understand what arrangements have been made to allow BARCO customers to send waste equipment for recycling:
