IRCAD 3 is a new facility entirely dedicated to research and training on surgical robotics. The center, which is inherently working on innovation on a day-to-day basis, has extended its preference for cutting-edge technology to the lobby and meeting rooms as well, with an important role for Barco visualization.

Founded in 1994 by Professor Jacques Marescaux, IRCAD is recognized worldwide as a surgical research and training institute. IRCAD 3 is the latest extension of the organization within the University Hospitals of Strasbourg (France). The new 2,400 m² building is entirely dedicated to new technologies and surgical robotics. Over 8,000 surgeons from 150 countries have been trained there in 2022.

System integrator DEYA supported IRCAD with the design and implementation of the audiovisual equipment for IRCAD 3. The architectural masterpiece devoted to research and training on surgical robotics holds the latest technology in a unique 4K 3D auditorium, welcoming lobby and modular meeting rooms.

Wow effect in the lobby

In the lobby, a 3x3 Barco UniSee video wall has been set up to broadcast corporate content and stream live events.

“We were specifically looking for a large video wall with ultra-thin edges,” says Mathieu Renfer, development engineer at the DEYA Design Office.

“The great advantage of Barco UniSee, especially for installers like us, is the ease of maintenance this product offers. The panels can be moved independently. You can dismantle the front panel and access all the electronic parts at the back. This is a major technical advantage for us in a very high-end space, where architecture sometimes takes precedence over technology.”

According to Mathieu, the video wall’s image quality is second to none. For passers-by, the video wall images provide a true wow effect, and the equipment is seamlessly integrated into the building wall.

“The image is very fine, with virtually invisible edges and crosses in the center of the image. So, this product provided the ideal solution.”

Intuitive wireless conferencing

The IRCAD 3 institute also offers the availability of four modular conference rooms. The team at DEYA wanted to provide technology that would enable meeting room users to be as autonomous as possible with a minimum of technical intervention needed. As an experienced provider of ClickShare, DEYA found exactly what they needed with the CX-50 wireless conferencing system.

“People who have used ClickShare once know that it’s very intuitive,” says Mathieu Renfer. “The ClickShare wireless conferencing system works extremely well. People are very autonomous with it and we don’t have to intervene for technical support. Meeting room users arrive, they see the ClickShare device, they pick it up and they connect. It’s as simple as that.”
