Barco and Ballantyne Strong, a digital cinema supplier and systems integrator, are providing a full range of DLP Cinema® projectors to convert Caribbean Cinemas’ film-based theaters to the latest, state-of-the-art digital projection technology, ultimately installing projectors in up to 437 screens. Installations will in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, followed by deployments in seven other islands.

Caribbean Cinemas selected Barco after months of in-depth due diligence and research, resulting in a deal that will expand Barco’s digital cinema footprint far and wide in the West Indies. The cinemas showcase not only first-run theatrical releases and art house films in both English and Spanish, but alternative content as well, including the upcoming 2012-13 Metropolitan Opera season.

Barco and Ballantyne Strong are installing both its “B” and “C” series projectors, including 3D, to provide the perfect match for every screen throughout Caribbean Cinema’s circuit. Most of the auditoriums will feature Barco’s DP2K-12C for screens up to 12m, all the way up to its largest, world record-winning DP2K-32B.
