Politiezone Asse, Merchtem, Opwijk, Wemmel (PZ AMOW), responsible for public safety across multiple municipalities, partnered with Barco to revolutionize their dispatch and crisis management capabilities. By implementing Barco’s CTRL control room software and two LCD video walls, PZ AMOW significantly upgraded their visualization, collaboration, and decision-making processes.

With a comprehensive responsibility for public safety and emergency response, PZ AMOW’s dispatch center and crisis room are central to their operational effectiveness. Their new facility, operational since 2023, needed a technological solution to help the team monitor the extending city camera network and manage the district’s increased surveillance needs.
Challenge
Before transitioning to their new premises, PZ AMOW operated without advanced visualization technologies. Dispatchers were constrained to using small computer monitors and a single TV screen, severely limiting their situational awareness. Collaboration during emergencies was inefficient due to the inability to display multiple sources simultaneously.
“We previously had just one TV screen to monitor cell cameras and had to manage public security cameras through individual computer screens,” explains Dany Callebaut from PZ AMOW. “There was a critical need for a robust, scalable solution.”
Additionally, the absence of specialized knowledge internally made it challenging to clearly define technical requirements for a complex control room solution, essential for their dispatch and crisis management rooms.
Solution
PZ AMOW turned to Barco through partner Securitas Technology. The collaboration resulted in implementing Barco’s CTRL software combined with two OverView KVD video walls, one in the dispatch room and another identical setup in the crisis room.
Barco CTRL proved to be ideal due to its simplicity, scalability, and robust security. The intuitive web-based user interface allows operators to easily manage content and layouts on the video walls. The solution’s scalability ensures new sources and operators can be quickly integrated, critical for an evolving organization like PZ AMOW. Furthermore, Barco’s security-first approach, adhering to zero-trust principles, ensures sensitive information remains confidential and secure.
“From the first contact, Barco clearly listened to our needs,” says Dany Callebaut. “Barco immediately provided a practical, professional solution that matched our operational and technical demands perfectly.”
Results
The implementation of Barco’s technology brought immediate operational benefits. Dispatchers can now simultaneously monitor over 60 surveillance cameras, as well as other essential applications such as the vehicle tracking system. Critical incidents are now managed more effectively, with real-time camera streams and drone footage instantly accessible on the large video wall.
“The video wall is now the central visual hub for monitoring and collaboration,” says Dany Callebaut. “Dispatchers can visualize multiple data streams simultaneously, significantly improving decision-making.”
Moreover, the crisis room is fully equipped for large-scale emergencies, capable of swiftly scaling up without disrupting daily dispatch operations. Even day-to-day meetings and training sessions have become more efficient thanks to the ease of sharing presentations and information through Barco ClickShare.
“We can now show two different presentations at the same time, enhancing our ability to discuss complex scenarios efficiently,” adds Callebaut. “This has already led to faster, better-informed decisions.”
