From 23 to 25 April last, Kino 2013 attracted exhibitors, distributors and service providers from across Europe to Baden-Baden, Germany, for a three-day immersion into the world of cinema anno 2013. While Barco’s digital cinema solutions were showcased at partner booths, Marc Aarts, Barco’s sales director DC Western Europe, and Wilfried van Baelen, CEO Galaxy Studios, participated in well-attended panel discussions. “Our participation was most interesting,” Marc Aarts concluded.

Ample visibility at partner booths

Kino 2013 can look back upon a successful edition of both its exhibition and conference: the size of the exhibition space, as well as the number of exhibitors and visitors had all increased compared to last year. At the 87 exhibitor booths, national and international companies presented their products and solutions – from their concession offering (soft drinks and food) to technical solutions.

Barco did not man an own booth but got ample visibility at partner booths. dcinex Deutschland GmbH and Kinoton GmbH presented our compact DP2K-10Sx projector, which was also showcased at five workshops, including a hands-on session by Arts Alliance Media. In addition, the dcinex stand also featured our digital signage solutions and Ymagis promoted our top-level DP4K-23B projector. Last but not least, Amptown System Company (a direct Barco partner) and CineProject (via DataSat) demonstrated Auro 11.1 by Barco.

The first feedback from Barco Integrators / partners is positive: our DP2K-10Sx was well received and several sales deals have been closed.

Cinema of the future

Away from the booths, at the cinema seminar/conference, Marc Aarts and Wilfried Van Baelen discussed with manufacturers like NEC, Christie, Sony Digital Cinema, Dolby and Alcons about their picture and audio solutions and the future of digital cinema. “It was very interesting and important to attend Kino 2013. In fact, the possibilities and advantages of digital cinema are still quite new to many professionals. We were happy to explain what the ‘Cinema of the Future’ might look like,” Marc Aarts concluded.
