Atelier des Lumières: where Barco projectors bring art to life

What are your plans for the summer holidays? If you’re planning a visit to Paris or the Provence, you shouldn’t miss the unique immersive exhibitions that Culturespaces set up there, with the help of Barco. In Les Baux-de-Provence, Barco projectors bring the paintings of renowned artists to life in a former underground quarry (Carrières des Lumières). Building on our expertise there, we’ve now set up 140+ projectors at Paris’ very first digital art center: l’Atelier des Lumières.

Bring artwork closer to people
For Culturespaces the pioneering exhibitions in Les Baux-de-Provence and Paris are like a dream come true. “My objective was to fully immerse visitors into pixels and sound and create a unique sensory experience – in order to bring the artwork closer to the people,” explains CEO Bruno Monnier.

When he had accomplished his mission at Carrières de Lumières (the art center even won a THEA award – the Oscar of the theme park industry!); it was time to conquer Paris. Culturespaces converted an old fondry into Atelier des Lumières, which opened in April 2018.

Breathtaking colors and detail

As our laser projectors – 100+ units – are doing a great job at Les-Baux-de-Provence, Culturespaces was happy to join forces with Barco again.

“The Paris audience is more critical though,” explains CEO Bruno Monnier, “so we decided to add some extras in Paris: make images move here and there, play with mirrors and project on cylindrical surfaces and water.” Our 128 laser PGWU-62L projectors and 16 F50 panoramic WUXGA projectors are perfectly up to the challenge of depicting the work of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Hundertwasser on an amazing 3,300m2 of projection space (walls, ceilings and floor) in breathtaking colors and detail.

The feedback is raving (Utterly fascinating!, Really different!, A great experience!) so don’t miss these attractions when you’re visiting France!
