A black screen when sharing video content to a ClickShare Base Unit via the ClickShare Button or ClickShare Desktop App is typically related to the type of content being shared or by specific settings on the source device
1. Copyright-protected (HDCP) content
Some video content—especially from streaming platforms or commercial video—uses HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
- ClickShare cannot display HDCP‑protected content
- When such content is shared, a black screen will appear
- Your screen will return to normal once you stop sharing that content
This is a limitation due to content protection rules, not a technical issue with your ClickShare system.

2. Regular (non-protected) video
If you encounter a black screen while sharing regular videos, the issue is usually related to your video player settings.
Some video players use a feature called an overlay, which prevents ClickShare from capturing the video image.
What you can do:
- Disable the overlay setting in your video player
- Or try playing the video in a different video player
After adjusting these settings, the video should display correctly on the meeting room screen. For instructions on how to change the overlay setting, please refer to the manual of your video player.
3. Need more troubleshooting
If the problem persists (especially with non‑protected content), additional factors might be involved such as display settings, cables, or device configuration.
