PDS-4K: the new workhorse at Don’t Wonder Productions

Andrew Poley is a self-proclaimed Barco supporter. As CEO of Don’t Wonder Productions, a full-service production company specializing in video, sound and lighting for live events, he’s been relying on the Barco image processing solutions for decades. And when the PDS-4K came out, he knew he found a new workhorse for his fleet. The production company owns currently two PDS-4K units which are non-stop on the road switching a variety of events.

When space is limited
Don’t Wonder Productions were in charge backstage of the Concours d’Elegance for luxury sports car brand Ferrari. The PDS-4K presentation switcher was the ideal solution to manage the LED screen and projector in a limited set-up with the small controller space.
“The Barco E2 and S3 processors are great, but we needed something smaller,” says Andrew. “This PDS-4K fills the dark hole of 4K processing for smaller rooms that has loomed over our industry for years. It’s the perfect little box for 4K switching with the reliability of Barco.”
Make things Dante
Hybrid meetings with zoom or vmix components are the new reality. For a corporate hybrid event with a large insurance company, the Don’t Wonder team was assigned the task to make things Dante as much as possible. The PDS switcher checked all the boxes and integrated perfectly in the hybrid production.
By adding the audio option card, the operators were to manage both high-quality video and pristine digital Dante audio from source to output through the same device. Andrew confirms: “With the PDS-4K we could simply switch both video and audio from zoom computer to zoom computer without any of the other boxes or complex set-ups.”
A reliable fleet player
Andrew and his team are delighted with the PDS-4K switchers in their fleet. It has proven to be the go-to switcher for those gigs when you don’t need the extra power of the Barco E2 brings. But at the same time, the PDS-4K integrates smoothly in bigger shows too. Andrew explains: “We can have the E2s for big blends, an S3 managing the side screens and a PDS to control the downstage monitors. And thanks to the flexibility of the compatibility of the Barco portfolio, we can control all these different units from one single controller!”
