Barco powers the biggest 3D visualization screen in oil and gas

Oil and gas exploration was once a painstaking, inefficient and time-consuming activity. Today, cutting-edge technology helps OGX reduce the need to drill numerous exploratory wells. To decide whether or not an offshore well is commercially viable, geologists, engineers and other decision-makers gather at the OGX virtual reality room in Rio de Janeiro to study an unparalleled amount of seismic data, which is gathered by seismic cables or ‘streamers’ and then converted into 3D graphics.

The virtual reality room features the biggest 3D visualization screen in the oil and gas industry. It is powered by Barco’s MegaCADWall system, based on three-chip DLP projection technology. The 3D image of the seabed is projected by two Galaxy NH-12 and four NW-12 projectors, arranged in a 3x2 set-up.
