Earlier this month, Reed Exhibitions Ltd and Asian Aviation magazine, joint organizers of the Aviation Awards Asia, honored the winners of the 2011 Awards. Airways New Zealand took home the award in the category Technology & Environment.
The program celebrates and recognizes champions in the Asian aviation industry, promoting best practices and providing a platform for the industry to assess trends and develop strategies for the future. The award for Airways New Zealand acknowledged their efforts in developing new procedures and technology to reduce aviation’s environmental footprint. One of these technologies was developed in cooperation with Barco.
Airways New Zealand and Barco combined their technologies to develop a Collaborative Flow Management system for airlines. Ever since this system was installed, Airways New Zealand estimates that the tool has contributed to NZ$22 million in fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions by 46 million kilos across the total New Zealand fleet.
