Additionally, the department undertakes clinical services, teaching, internships, and specialist training. Context

As medical imaging evolves toward higher precision, functional imaging and multimodality fusion, the processing volume of imaging data continues to grow. This trend makes efficient management and intelligent integration more critical than ever. To meet these needs, Ezhou Central Hospital built a modern diagnostic and office environment for its Medical Imaging Department, deploying Barco’s integrated reading room solution in its newly established airport-economic zone campus. By combining diagnostic monitors, large-format screens, Barco’s intelligent morning conferencing system, height-adjustable reading workstations, and an integrated environment control panel, the department has created a versatile, multi-scenario reading environment. This comprehensive setup significantly improves diagnostic accuracy and workflow efficiency, laying a solid foundation for the hospital’s sustained high-quality development.

Challenge

Before deploying Barco’s integrated solution, the Medical Imaging Department faced several critical challenges. The previous displays were unable to clearly render complex details, such as nerve fiber pathways and cardiac flow directions, and their performance in capturing fine details, particularly subtle breast tumor lesions, was limited, compromising diagnostic precision. Furthermore, the previous devices were not equipped with a built-in compliance and quality assurance platform, making automated testing and calibration impossible. Manual intervention was required to ensure pixel-level compliance with imaging standards.

Solution

Ezhou Central Hospital adopted Barco’s integrated reading room solution to transform the traditional reading environments into a modern, intelligent diagnostic workspace by implementing comprehensive hardware and software across all workflows and scenarios.

The Medical Imaging Department deployed 9 Coronis Fusion 6MP displays, 2 Nio Color 5.8MP displays, and 14 4MP diagnostic displays. With their high brightness, high contrast, and precise color calibration, these displays enable clear visualization of complex imaging details, such as nerve fiber pathways and cardiac flow directions, and significantly enhancing the detection of subtle lesions, and improving diagnostic accuracy.

Barco’s embedded QAWeb Enterprise compliance and quality control platform enables real-time automated quality control across all displays, resolves the challenge of synchronizing QA across multiple displays in the imaging department and ensures reliable quality assurance throughout the diagnostic process.

Two 86” Barco integrated screens were deployed in the department’s conference room. With the support of Barco’s intelligent morning conference platform, radiologists can efficiently manage scheduling, conduct remote morning briefings, and carry out joint teaching activities, which reinforces multidisciplinary and inter-campus collaboration, enhancing the service capacity of the imaging department.

The ergonomic height-adjustable reading workstations effectively help reduce the physical strain caused by prolonged work, protect radiologists’ health, and improve workflow efficiency.
