Barco, Televic Education and KU Leuven (KULAK) team up to foster collaborative learning

INVESTISSEURS 1 min de lecture

How can our existing collaborative technology best help educational institutions to make lectures more interactive, engaging and fun? Barco and Televic Education, a world leader in educational technology, will explore this topic for the next two years, together with KU Leuven (KULAK - Kortrijk campus). All three partners are excited about the research which, they hope, will lead to an innovative ‘collaborative learning’ platform that is ready to conquer the world.

A living lab to experiment
Under the TECOL project (Technology-Enhanced Collaborative Learning), Barco, Televic Education and KULAK will set up a living lab at the KULAK campus. There, they will gauge the needs of students, lecturers, facility managers and other stakeholders and test how the existing collaboration solutions of both Barco and Televic perform. The research team will examine several use cases: how to increase student interactivity during lectures, build collaborative learning spaces and set up a multi-location learning environment. An example? In a first trial, future students filled out a number of quiz and poll questions on their own mobile devices, and the results were shared via the Barco platform.

Change the face of education
Earlier this year, Barco provided collaborative technology to foster student-centric learning at RHIZO Lyceum OLV Vlaanderen, a secondary school in Kortrijk. The TECOL project further confirms our commitment to make a difference in education. “Education is crucial for the future of our region,” said our CEO Eric van Zele after signing the partnership agreement yesterday. “Hence the importance of this Flemish Edtech ecosystem, which brings together the academic world and the industry to experiment and learn, in a real-life university environment. Based on our experience in other markets, we hope to develop exciting, new solutions that change the face of education.” Rik Torfs, rector at KU Leuven, stressed how the technology that will be tested under the TECOL project is really a game-changer for global education.
