Designed with the aim of popularizing night tourism in winters, Seoul Light - a citizen-friendly event, is the brainchild of Seoul City Council and Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) Foundation. The event is an effective example of how display screens can be projected on the surface of public buildings using AI technology.
Led by world-renowned media designer, Refik Anadol and Korean data visualization artist and designer, Min Se-hee, the entire event exhibit was projected on the outer wall of DDP, transforming it into a gigantic exhibition space. This incredible experience was made real with the help of Barco UDX-4K32 and HDF-W26 projectors.
The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a major urban development landmark in Seoul, South Korea. The architectural grandeur lies in the distinctively neo-futuristic design, characterized by the powerful, curving forms of elongated structures. With an ability to provide dazzling, high-resolution images with unbelievable performance and the flexibility to project on varying surfaces, Barco projectors beautifully unfolded the inaugural theme of Seoul Haemong’ - showcasing the past, present and future of Seoul and Dongdaemun.
Superior projection technology
Barco Korea worked closely with the organizers from the early stages. Owing to the Barco team’s deep interaction with the user, main contractor, consultant and SI, the project influencers and owners were confident of Barco’s proven projection technology.
The Barco installation promised a stunning visual experience ensuring perfection in image display for all kinds of events. 28 units of projectors, with 22 rental and 6 fix-installation were deployed to match the show’s overwhelming scale and dynamism. The visual impact of Barco’s projection technology has created an opportunity for replacement of the rental units with fixed installations in the future, as part of phase 2 of the existing project.
An Outcome to Remember
Barco’s commitment to reliable and powerful image projection made ‘Seoul Light’ a grand showcase. The event came to life at sunset as Barco’s projectors enthralled the audience with the display of stunning razor-sharp images on DDP’s curved silver exterior. The objective is to capture the pulse of the city through an expression of public narratives, using art and technology. And, to make it all possible, Barco brings in the expertise.
