A larger-than-life dinosaur experience
Barco successfully addressed the dual challenges of a 580-meter enclosed water-ride environment and a large-scale nighttime projection show. To fully realize the project’s ambitious visual goals, four Barco UDM-4K30 projectors were deployed throughout the “Jurassic Adventure” attraction, each delivering curved, large-format projections across multiple scenes.
For the nighttime experience, eight Barco UDX-W32 projectors power an architectural projection mapping show that transform the site after dark. Seamlessly integrated with environmental effects, the visuals blend digital imagery and physical space to elevate overall immersion.
Barco professional solutions, built to survive Jurassic conditions
This project presented multiple technical challenges. First, the installation environment was highly complex. In “Jurassic Adventure”, projectors needed to be concealed and installed along narrow waterways, on outdoor facades, and within diverse theater structures. These tight spaces imposed stringent requirements on equipment size, installation flexibility, and long-term operational stability.
Operating conditions added another layer of complexity. The projectors were required to perform reliably over extended periods in humid, high-temperature, and fluctuating temperature environments, while accurately rendering detailed scenes such as prehistoric forests and dynamic dinosaur chases.
For the “Fantasy 3D Show” night tour, high precision in color blending, brightness, color gradation, and geometric correction was essential. Each phase of installation and calibration demanded a careful balance between accuracy and reliability to ensure consistent results at scale.
Inside a dinosaur adventure that surrounds, surprises, and stuns
In the multi-dimensional scenes of “Jurassic Adventure”, Barco projectors arranged light and imagery with precision, seamlessly integrating digital visuals with physical set pieces and mechanical elements. This fusion created a compelling visual foundation that brought the prehistoric world’s narrative to life with truly immersive impact.
- “Lush Forest” scene: One Barco UDM-4K30, equipped with a TLD+ 0.37 ultra-short throw lens, projected on a 9.76-meter-wide curved screen from a distance of 5.4 meters. The projected imagery seamlessly blended with artificial vegetation and rockwork, creating a prehistoric forest with a strong sense of depth.
- “First Encounter” scene: One Barco UDM-4K30 with a TLD+ 0.37 ultra-short throw lens projected on an 8.2-meter-wide curved screen from 4.56 meters. The digital visuals vividly depicted a mother dinosaur guarding her eggs, delivering visual layering that drew visitors deeper into the storyline.
- “Into the Herd” scene: A 13-meter-wide curved screen formed the visual space for a dynamic dinosaur chase. Two Barco UDM-4K30 projectors, each fitted with TLD+ 0.37 ultra-short throw lenses, covered the expansive canvas from just 4.77 meters. The visuals brought to life dramatic moments—dinosaurs bursting through walls or leaping from water—synchronized with boat motion and real water effects to create a fully immersive ride experience.
- “Fantasy 3D Show” nighttime scene: Eight Barco UDX-W32 projectors created a large-scale 3D projection mapping show across the facade of the China Dinosaur Museum. Combined with lake-based lasers, flame effects, and drone performances, the show brought giant dinosaurs and mechanical beasts to life as if breaking through the building surface, delivering a continuous and spectacular nighttime attraction.
