9.6.6 Syntax-based programming

About syntax-based programming

Syntax-based programming uses the different sections of the action buttons in a sequence. The way these buttons are pressed helps reduce the amount of button presses needed for certain actions. The entered command can be followed in the controller category of the Event Master Toolset software. For more information, see “Using the controller”.

How to program
  1. Is the command to start a cue?

    • If yes, go to step 4.
    • If no, go to next step.
  2. Must the command save or execute?

    • In case of save, enable the ‘Save PVW’ or ‘Save PGM’ miscellaneous buttons. For more information, see “Miscellaneous section”.
    • In case of execute, disable the ‘Save PVW’ or ‘Save PGM’ miscellaneous buttons. For more information, see “Miscellaneous section”.
  3. Select the target of the action using one of the following methods:

    • Using Event Master Toolset, select the desired targets in the programming category. For more information, see “Programming”.
    • Using the left side of the controller, select the desired destinations and/or layers. For more information, see “Screen destination buttons” and “Layer buttons”.
    • Using the miscellaneous buttons, press ‘All Dest’ or ‘All Layer’ to select all destinations or all layers. For more information, see “Miscellaneous section”.
    • Using one or two of the syntax commands, go to next step.
  4. Enter the desired syntax command.

Tip: The syntax command can be selecting a target or an action. Syntax command chains can consist of only target selections, only actions or a combination of target selections and actions. In case of the combination, the first syntax commands must be target selections and the last syntax commands must be the actions.
    1. Select the desired category. For more information, see “Category section”.
    2. Enter the desired ID or ID range. For more information, see “Numpad section”.
    3. Limit the command by toggling contextual settings. For more information, see “Contextual display section”.

Tip: If a layer is selected, then the rotary encoders can be used to adjust the position. If the contextual setting Main Tab, Window Tab and/or Effects Tab are enabled, then these can also be adjusted using the rotary encoders. For more information, see “Rotary encoders”.
  5. Must another command be chained?

    • If yes and less than three commands have been entered, repeat step 4.
    • If no, go to next step.
  6. Press ‘Enter’ to execute the command on the selected targets.
  7. Transition the scene from preview to program using the T-bar or the transition buttons. For more information, see: (optional)

  8. Press ‘Save All’ to save the changes. For more information, see “Controller settings buttons”. (optional)
