From St. Nicholas celebrations to career milestones: The Deroo family's Barco story

Lesezeit 2 Min.

Danny Deroo, Product Manager Innovation, who has been with Barco for over 30 years, shares his perspective on life at Barco. "Seeing my daughter become a colleague was definitely different," he says. "My son and eldest daughter had worked here as summer students, so that was already a nice experience. But when Iene joined full-time, it was unique. Although I never pushed her to join, it was great to see her enjoying her work and making new friends."

I started at Barco in 2019, but my connection to the company goes back much further,". "As a child, I was always present at the St. Nicholas parties and barbecues that were organized. Those events made me think highly of Barco as a company. My dad never pushed me to join Barco, but he definitely influenced my decision. I did several summer jobs here, and when a vacancy opened in the EMEA marketing team, I didn’t think twice. It felt like a natural progression"

Iene echoes this sentiment. "Our relationship has always been good, but working together has made it even better," she says. "Even though we do completely different things, I still feel guided in my job and know I can talk to my dad whenever I need to."

One of Danny’s proud moments involves hearing positive feedback about Iene from her managers. "From the very beginning, when Iene worked here as a summer student, I heard positive feedback. She delivers, asks the right questions, and takes the lead on initiatives. It's great to see her grow and take ownership."

For Iene, her father's legacy at Barco has always been an inspiration. "His success comes from his intelligence, rational hard work, and management skills. Being someone who likes a challenge and to be challenged is something I learned from my dad, and I highly value that."

Their professional lives have intertwined in unexpected ways. "Thinking more customer-centric, thinking outside-in, and being innovative are values I learned from my father's way of working," Iene said. "Always think: What problem am I solving? What is the benefit for our target audience? How will we solve that problem?"

As Barco celebrates 90 years, the Deroo family exemplifies the deep connections and legacy that make the company special. "Innovation, solution-oriented thinking, and a warm heart," Iene summarized. "These are the values my dad instilled in me, and that Barco continues to represent."
