Barco unveiled its unified platform for surgical AI at NVIDIA GTC 2026

Einblicke · Digitale Pathologie · 5 min Lesezeit

Barco concluded its participation at NVIDIA GTC 2026 with a demonstration of how its technology unifies compute, connectivity and intelligent interaction, enabling partners to deploy AI applications in the operating room without modifying existing infrastructure.

As AI innovation continues to enter clinical practice, surgical environments require more than standalone applications. They need a secure, scalable foundation that allows intelligent systems to integrate seamlessly into the operating room.

At GTC 2026, Barco showcased how its NVIDIA IGX Thor–based platform brings partner applications together within a unified surgical workflow.

Enabling coordinated surgical AI

Barco’s live demonstration presented a complete perioperative pathway, spanning preoperative planning, intraoperative decision support and postoperative documentation.

At the core:

  • NexxisCompute, Barco’s edge compute platform built on NVIDIA IGX Thor technology, provides scalable, clinical‑grade compute for real‑time AI workloads.

  • Brilliant Assistant™️a smart surgical display that serves as a real-time assistant developed with SoftAcuity, enables touch‑ and voice‑driven interaction in the operating room.

  • Nexxis AVoIP delivers deterministic, near-zero latency transport of surgical video and clinical data.

The demonstration integrated two third party applications that provide decision support for the clinical staff:

  • Mantyx, a surgical copilot delivering real‑time guidance such as phase detection and anatomy recognition.

  • OnTarget by PointCaré, providing agentic AI–driven anesthesia decision support and critical‑care workflow assistance.

Connected through Nexxis, these applications operate within a distributed edge architecture designed for modern surgical AI environments.

By combining standardized connectivity with scalable compute, Barco enables AI developers and technology partners to integrate new applications into the operating room without redesigning infrastructureLearn more about the demo.

“By building on IGX Thor, Barco is enabling medical‑grade edge AI systems that support rapid, reliable deployment in clinical environments,” said David Niewolny, AI Solutions Leader, NVIDIA“This approach helps MedTech innovators shorten development cycles and move toward production‑ready, certified surgical solutions with greater confidence.”

“The operating room is evolving from a collection of devices to a connected, software defined environment,” said Stephanie Dupont, VP Product Management Healthcare at Barco. “Barco enables that transition by providing a secure foundation that helps AI innovators bring clinical‑grade applications into the operating room more quickly and reliably.”
