Context

The new Fuzhou Science and Technology Museum building officially opened its doors in November 2024! With a 12,500 square meter area, it boasts seven incredible exhibition halls like the children's science park, Earth's habitat, and marine exploration. It’s an immersive experience filled with innovative visual displays and interactive exhibits that scream technology and the future.

The Barco projection solutions are used to vividly bring abstract scientific concepts to life. Light and shadow spaces create an immersive technology environment for exploring the beauty of science.

Challenge

Deploying nearly one hundred projectors, this project required precise multi-projector integration to ensure precise seamless blending and balanced brightness and color. The installation and layout in especially complex spaces such as the dome theater and the immersive theater with circular screen and curved projections present significant challenges, requiring flexible solutions to different installation environments across the various exhibition areas.

To address the complex image stitching issues, the project team conducted precise installation and adjustment to ensure seamless integration of image edges, achieving natural image stitching and consistent colors across multiple projectors. Additionally, precise calculations were made to determine the appropriate projection distances and lens shift angles for complex spaces.

Solution

In the double-screen dome theater, with 17-meter outer diameter and a 12-meter inner diameter, five UDM-4K15 projectors are adopted to deliver professional-grade visuals. Its 4K UHD resolution, 15,000 lumens brightness, high color accuracy, and wide color gamut presents bright, detailed, and refined images and provide visitors with an unparalleled viewing experience. The robust design of the UDM projectors, which are suspended at high positions in the theatre, ensures that vibration and heat would not affect the quality of the projection.

In the Ocean Exploration exhibition hall, thirty-three G50-W7 projectors are installed, to power immersive experiences recreating majestic maritime history.  With outstanding image quality, color, and image uniformity, it vividly presents the majestic scenes of schools of fish swimming and underwater volcanic eruptions.

In the Aerospace exhibition hall, eleven G50-W8 projectors are deployed, integrated with scale models of the Shenzhou spacecraft and Chang’e probes to illustrate the development of China’s aerospace technology. Six more of the G50-W8 models are used for the “A Gaze from Mars” installation, flexibly installed in a compact space, projecting on an immersive circular screen, and providing visitors with a breathtaking experience of close-up cosmic exploration.

In the Earth Home exhibition hall, twenty-one G50-W8 projectors, paired with interactive installations and models, showcase the grand epic of Earth’s history from its formation to the present. Immersive spaces such as “Molten Earth”, “Earth Layers”, and “Natural Disaster Immersive Theater” invite visitors to experience the planet in new ways, making scientific exhibitions more captivating.

The Life Sciences exhibition hall has twelve G50 projectors combining visual projection with physical specimens, presenting stunning scenes on the evolution of mammals and humanity.

Finally, in the Digital Era exhibition hall, thirteen more projectors are employed to construct a digital age scene, simulating the operation of a smart city and mapping human facial images onto a massive 3D model, integrating AI to enable intelligent interactions with visitors.
