Context

WS Dreamland is located within the Dream Times Mall in Wuhan City, the world’s largest single-building shopping complex. Spanning nearly 50,000 square meters with a ceiling height of 40 meters, it stands as Central China’s first large-scale indoor cultural tourism project. Based on an original IP, the adventure park features six themed zones that integrate painting art with immersive visuals to craft a dreamlike experience.

The two Barco-powered attractions are “Reversed City” and “The Time and Space Museum”.

Reversed City” is the first indoor catapulted roller coaster with multimedia special effects in China. It perfectly combines the thrill of high-speed roller coasters with multimedia artistry. “The Time and Space Museum”, in its turn, is the first indoor dark ride in China to incorporate gesture and sound recognition technology. The ride takes it visitors on a journey through time where they encounter prehistoric creatures, mythological figures, and legendary artists in interactive adventures.

Challenge

The complicated and space-constrained structures of the indoor attractions presented significant challenges for projector installation. And the rides also required impeccable color precision to meet its high visual standards with the utmost clarity and vibrancy, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

Solution

The compact and versatile Barco G-series played a pivotal role in the project’s success, delivering the refined design and stunning visual effects characteristic of a dark ride. Its brightness and color capabilities create a powerful visual impact, exceeding the standards of traditional rollercoasters. The projectors’ unique suspension structure and rotation capabilities were important to counter the architectural limitations.

In the “Upside-Down City”, seven Barco G60-W10 projectors power seven scenes, navigating complex structures and fantastical landscapes to create adrenaline-pumping excitement. The vibrant visuals crafted by Barco projectors seamlessly timed with the rollercoasters stops, rotations and dynamic movements amplify the multisensory experience.

In the “Time and Space Museum” there’s twenty G60-W10 projectors, bringing vivid, finely detailed images to life, seamlessly integrating the projections with the time-travelling themed environments.

Spanning eras from the Jurassic period to the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution, the visuals incorporate a blend of historical and mythological elements.

Results

The result is akin to a mini-Broadway production, where the integration of dynamic visual solutions, interactive devices, and intricate settings deliver a lifelike and exhilarating adventure. The Barco projectors seamlessly integrate artistic visuals and immersive imagery into the entertainment scene, crafting a fantastic and enchanting new experience.

As the demand for immersive experiences in the cultural and tourism industry continues to grow, Barco projectors, with their exceptional visual performance and high-quality technical support, are becoming a vital force driving innovation in the field, providing limitless possibilities for innovation ideas in cultural tourism projects.
