MediCal QAWeb end-of-life: FAQ

Article number: [15024]

Introduction

Barco is announcing the End of Life and discontinuation of service for MediCal QAWeb, our legacy quality assurance software for Barco Display Systems. This decision comes as our newer solution, QAWeb Enterprise, has demonstrated its reliability and capabilities as a superior replacement. QAWeb Enterpise have passed the milestone of 100,000 active Barco displays in the field connected to QAWeb Enterprise.

This evolution proves that centralized; remote management is the future for managing diagnostic displays in healthcare organizations. It helps PACS and IT managers save time and costs, and it doesn’t interrupt the clinicians who work with the monitors.

At Barco, we remain committed to supporting the evolving needs of the healthcare industry, ensuring that diagnostic displays remain reliable and compliant, regardless of their location!

Q: Can I still sign up for Medical QAWeb?

A: Effective January 1, 2025, Barco will no longer accept registrations for new MediCal QAWeb organizations. After this date, creating a new facility or signing up for MediCal QAWeb will not be possible anymore.

Info: Even before this date, we do not recommend signing up for MediCal QAWeb Anymore because the product will go offline on January 1st, 2026. Signing up with QAWeb Enterprise is very easy. Follow the step-by-step instructions in our guide: Getting started with QAWeb Enterprise in 5 steps

Q: Which MediCal QAWeb features can I still use and for how long?

A:  Throughout three distinguished phases, the Medical QAWeb features will be deactivated.

Phase 1: As of January 1, 2025, new organization registrations in MediCal QAWeb are no longer accepted, neither MediCal QAWeb premium licenses will be generated. While Barco continues to provide customer support through service tickets for MediCal QAWeb, no further product updates, security updates and bug fixes will be developed. Customers and partners are encouraged to transition to QAWeb Enterprise.

Phase 2:  Starting July 1, 2025, MediCal QAWeb will no longer synchronize data between local workstations and the server. However, all historical MediCal QAWeb data will remain accessible via the MediCal QAWeb server or via the “QAWeb 1 Bridge” feature within QAWeb Enterprise. The locally installed MediCal QAWeb agent will become inactive, requiring reinstallation or reconfiguration.

After reinstallation or reconfiguration of the Medical QAWeb Agent, new display data will only be stored locally on the workstations, meaning customers will need to manage their own backups for MediCal QAWeb data. Additionally, service tickets for MediCal QAWeb will no longer be supported.

Phase 3: Starting January 1, 2026, MediCal QAWeb server will shut down, making all server-stored data inaccessible. While the server will be offline after this date, Barco will maintain offline copies of MediCal QAWeb Server instances until January 1, 2027, for historical data access if needed. If you require access to historical MediCal QAWeb data after January 1, 2026, please contact your local Barco representative.

Q: How long can I still access my MediCal QAWeb reports and data?

A: Until the MediCal QAWeb Server is shut down on January 1st, 2026, you can still consult all reports and data on MediCal QAWeb Server. Make sure to download all reports you may need for e.g. QA audit reasons before that date.

Info: Local reports in QAWeb Agent are available as long as the QAWeb Agent is installed locally on the workstation. Uninstalling QAWeb Agent will remove the data from the workstation.

Q: Can I migrate my MediCal QAWeb data towards QAWeb Enterprise?

A: No, it is not possible to migrate MediCal QAWeb data to QAWeb Enterprise.

We do have a feature called “QAWeb 1 Bridge” which can make data from MediCal QAWeb visible in QAWeb Enterprise, but this data is not copied to the QAWeb Enterprise Server. This means that the QAWeb 1 Bridge will no longer be able to retrieve data from MediCal QAWeb Server from January 1st 2026 onwards.

For more information about how to use the QAWeb 1 Bridge, click the following link:

https://documentation-qaweb.healthcare.barco.com/en/disw-qaweb-server-manual/src/manage-organizational-structure.html?highlight=bridge#integrating-qaweb-1-workstations

Q: I have set up the QAWeb 1 bridge to view QAWeb 1 data in QAWeb Enterprise. Will I still be able to see this data after the QAWeb 1 server is shut down?

A: No, as the data is only retrieved in real-time from the MediCal QAWeb Server, this data will no longer be available from January 1st, 2026, onwards.

Q: Which Barco displays are supported in QAWeb Enterprise

A: The full list of Barco displays which are supported in QAWeb Enterprise can be found here: https://www.barco.com/en/support/docs/TDE10174

Q: I have older Barco displays which are not supported by QAWeb Enterprise. What should I do?

A: QAWeb 1 Agent can still be used with older displays for local Quality Assurance tasks. Make sure to download a copy of the latest QAWeb 1 Agent before the end of service date.

Q: Can I bulk download my QAWeb 1 data?

A: Bulk downloading of data is not supported in MediCal QAWeb. You will have to retrieve your essential reports individually.

Q: How to change a connected QAWeb 1 agent to a standalone version?

A: Before July 1th, 2025 when you remove workstations from the MediCal QAWeb server, the Medical QAWeb agent will start running in standalone mode.

Q: What should I do when I am no longer using MediCal QAWeb Server?

A: You have transitioned your fleet to QAWeb Enterprise? Great! Here are a few things to take into consideration after you are done transitioning:

  • Uninstall MediCal QAWeb Relay in your organization. This is now no longer needed. By uninstalling, you avoid that this redundant tool is still using a connection to the Internet.
  • Remove any firewall rules you may have set up for MediCal QAWeb to be able to communicate with the Internet. These can be found in the Install sheet MediCal QAWeb Relay document.
  • If you have any leftover MediCal QAWeb Agent installations for supporting displays that are not compatible with QAWeb Enterprise, make sure these QAWeb Agents are running in standalone mode by removing a workstation with active communication from the MediCal QAWeb server. When you remove the workstations from the MediCal QAWeb server, the Medical QAWeb agent will start running in standalone mode.

Q: I am using MediCal QAWeb to calibrate non-Barco (3rd party) displays using an external sensor. Is this feature also available in QAWeb Enterprise?

A: Calibrating non-barco displays is not  supported in QAWeb Enterprise

Q: How long should copies of Medical QAWeb Quality Assurance Reports be kept?

A: The duration depends on regional regulations. Barco recommends contacting a regional medical authority to find out how long quality assurance reports must be available.

Q: What should I do if my question is not answered yet?

A: Should something remain unclear, please contact the Barco Customer Service Team or your Barco Representative, and we will be happy to answer any questions you might still have.
