The updated SOC not only gives us more overview, but also provides a professional environment where we can effectively inform customers and partners about how we work."
Barco CTRL brings clarity to Irdeto’s modern Service Operations Center
Hoofddorp, Netherlands · 2025
Lack of overview and fragmented screens hampered the efficiency of Irdeto's Service Operations Center. Barco CTRL now bundles all critical information in one central, clear work environment.
Irdeto has been a global leader in cybersecurity for decades, protecting digital services used daily by hundreds of millions of people. The company helps broadcasters, streaming platforms and pay-TV providers to securely distribute their content, protects vehicles and mobility systems from cyberattacks and monitors the integrity of gaming ecosystems worldwide. In all these domains one thing is central: Organizations must be able to rely on digital services that are always available, secure, and fraud-free.
Irdeto's Service Operations Center (SOC) plays a crucial role in this. It is the place where all signals come together, where anomalies in behavior or traffic are detected and where teams act quickly when something happens globally that could have a direct impact on customers or end users. The quality and agility of the SOC largely determine how effectively Irdeto can prevent, investigate and resolve threats.
An SOC that no longer kept pace with growth
Work in the SOC requires continuous focus and direct access to the right information. As Irdeto grew and the amount of data and incident reports increased, the existing environment began to show more and more limitations. The space was previously filled with 48 individual 21-inch displays, which led to fragmentation, limited overview and an environment that simply no longer suited the scale at which Irdeto operates.
"Some days it could take five to six hours for all the displays to boot up," says Andy Shaffer, Director Cloud Engineering and DevOps. "In practice we therefore only used about fifteen of them. We lacked overview and it felt less and less scalable for the amount of data we process every day."
The small displays made graphs and dashboards difficult to read. Operators had to constantly switch between sources, slowing response times and increasing the pressure on operations. The SOC needed a new approach appropriate for an organization that secures digital services worldwide.
The need for clarity, peace of mind and flexibility
Following an extensive evaluation of available technologies, C-DOT selected Barco’s comprehensive control room ecosystem powered by the Barco CTRL software platform. This decision was based on the platform’s proven capabilities in addressing complex visualization, control, and security requirements.
Irdeto wanted an environment where operators can immediately see what is important, without searching or switching between screens. Key requirements included the ability to display a single source across the entire video wall, switch quickly between incidents, and collaborate more easily with colleagues worldwide.
“We were looking for a solution that would allow us to think less about screens and systems,” says Andy. "We wanted technology that support us, rather than something we constantly have to think about.”
From 48 separate screens to one integrated environment
During the discussions between Barco partner INTER and Irdeto, it became clear that a future-proof setup was needed where operators could collaborate more effectively. The choice fell on the Barco CTRL KVM over IP solution with a Barco UniSee II LCD video wall. This replaced separate screens with a single integrated canvas that supports the entire operation.
Barco CTRL provides complete management of all visual sources within the control room environment. With a single mouse and keyboard, operators can seamlessly control content on both the large video wall and individual workstations.
The power of the new solution lies precisely in its simplicity. The entire video wall can be controlled from the workstation and sources can be displayed in large format very fast. This provides immediate visibility into the SOC and makes workflows more intuitive.
"You notice it straight away," says Andy. "What was previously spread across dozens of screens now comes together in a single view. We see what has priority faster and respond with less noise. That makes a world of difference."
The videoconferencing camera also helps us consult more quickly with colleagues worldwide. Incidents can be shared and discussed immediately, which shortens response times and strengthens collaboration.
