Setting the stage for cinematic excellence

The Academy Awards set the tone for the global film industry, shaping expectations far beyond the ceremony itself. The stage becomes a canvas, one that blends cinematic content, live performance, and visual storytelling into a single, seamless experience - both in the room and across global broadcasts.

For this edition, the main stage played a key role in bringing that experience to life. Content from the Academy and nominated films flowed across the stage, creating a dynamic visual narrative that supported every moment of the show.

To bring the show to life, a tight-knit collective of creative and technical experts stepped in. Senovva, led by Dave Taylor, steered the overall show production, keeping every element moving in sync. Alongside them, AEON Point drove the creative execution for screens, with Jason Rudolph leading as Screens Producer under the guidance of Executive Producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, and Producer Sarah Levine Hall.

The visual storytelling was shaped by Production Designers Misty Buckley and Alana Billingsley, with technical finesse from Screens Programmer Akash Bartlett and Screens Engineer Tim Nauss ensuring every pixel landed as intended.

Fuse Technical Group supported both Senovva and AEON Point as a trusted supplier, contributing to the technical delivery that brought the entire experience together seamlessly.

Zero compromise in a high-stakes live environment

Delivering visuals for a live broadcast of this caliber comes with uncompromising technical demands.

First, content management is inherently complex. Multiple sources – including pre-produced clips, live feeds, and show graphics – must be processed and displayed in real time. Each signal must be routed, scaled, and positioned with precision, without introducing latency or risk.

Second, the visual output must perform under demanding conditions. Bright stage lighting, large-scale surfaces, and camera capture all place pressure on image consistency, contrast, and color accuracy.

Finally, reliability is non-negotiable. In a live broadcast environment with no second takes, the system must ensure continuous operation, with seamless transitions and zero tolerance for visual disruptions.

All of this had to happen seamlessly, ensuring that viewers at home and attendees in the venue experienced a polished, uninterrupted show.

The technology behind an award-winning experience

To meet these demands, the production relied on a combination of Barco’s Encore3 image processing platform and QDX-4K45 projectors.

Four Encore3s handled the complex signal workflow, enabling real-time processing and flexible content layout across the mainstage. Its modular architecture allowed the team to manage multiple inputs simultaneously, ensuring that each visual element was displayed exactly as intended – in the right place, at the right moment.

Complementing this, eight Barco QDX-4K45 projectors delivered the required brightness and image fidelity. Designed for high-impact environments, they provided consistent output with vibrant colors and sharp detail, ensuring that visuals held up both to the live audience and the broadcast cameras.

Together, these solutions created a stable and adaptable visual system, one capable of handling the technical complexity of the show without compromising creative intent. The result was a visually striking and technically flawless mainstage experience, supporting one of the world’s most prestigious live broadcasts. Content playback was smooth, transitions were seamless, and image quality met the uncompromising standards expected of the Academy Awards.

An Oscar-worthy performance behind the scenes

On the night itself, everything came together as it should: seamlessly, and almost invisibly. The visuals supported every moment of the ceremony, from cinematic montages to live stage transitions, without drawing attention to the technology behind them, allowing the focus to stay exactly where it belongs: on the stories, the talent, and the magic of cinema.

For viewers around the world, the experience felt effortless. For the production team, it was the result of precision, collaboration, and the confidence that every element would perform exactly as needed. Because on Hollywood’s biggest night, the goal is simple: make every moment count and let nothing stand in its way.
