Barco is pushing the boundaries of surgical innovation with two groundbreaking AI-powered solutions currently in development. We’re excited to showcase the latest advancements for Brilliant Assistant, an AI driven advanced surgical display, and Nexxis Compute, a computing platform for surgical environments, at NVIDIA GTC 2025.

Brilliant Assistant: The Future of Surgical Displays

In collaboration with SoftAcuity, Barco is developing Brilliant Assistant, a next-generation surgical display designed to enhance precision, efficiency, and collaboration in the operating room. Integrated with the NVIDIA Jetson Orin and NVIDIA Holoscan platforms, this voice-controlled touch display aims to enable hands-free interactions, allowing surgeons to focus entirely on the procedure.

Key features under development include: 

  • Seamless Video Connectivity: High-quality, real-time video streaming with near-zero latency.

  • Compatibility with Nexxis Software: Clinicians will be able to share any video source on any connected display, enhancing collaboration during surgeries.

  • AI-Powered Capabilities: Leveraging NVIDIA’s advanced platforms to deliver real-time insights and support surgical decision-making. 

Brilliant Assistant is designed to transform how surgical teams interact with technology, making procedures more efficient and reducing the risk of errors.

Nexxis Compute: Computing Platform for the Operating Room

Barco is also innovating Nexxis Compute, a computing platform tailored for surgical environments. Built on NVIDIA’s medical-grade full-stack accelerated computing architecture, including the NVIDIA IGX and Holoscan platforms, Nexxis Compute aims to combine real-time edge computing with Barco’s Nexxis AV over IP routing.

Key features under development include: 

  • Real-Time Video Processing: Instant analysis and visualization of surgical data.

  • AI-Enabled Applications: Support for regulated AI applications in the operating room, enhancing surgical precision and outcomes.

  • Collaborative Ecosystem: A unified platform for medical device manufacturers, OR integrators, and independent software vendors (ISVs) to connect applications, reducing complexity and ensuring compatibility.

  • For ISVs, Nexxis Compute will offer a validated, ready-to-use infrastructure with NVIDIA IGX compute power, ensuring seamless deployment and future-proofing the OR for next-generation AI-based algorithms.
