ClickShare Hub – Administrator password requirements, validation rules and security controls (Device Settings)

Article number: [16039]

Applicable to

Scope and applicability

This article describes the password policy enforced for the administrator account used to access the Device Settings for the ClickShare Hub.

The policy applies specifically to access to Device Settings via the ClickShare Control Panel.

Password requirements

Administrator passwords must comply with the following constraints:

  • Minimum length: 8 characters
  • Maximum length: 200 characters

Supported character types

Customers are free to define their password using any combination of the following:

  • Letters (uppercase and lowercase)
  • Numbers
  • Special characters
  • Spaces
  • Multi-byte characters (Unicode)

Additional clarifications

  • There is no restriction on the use of special characters.
  • The use of spaces is permitted within the password.
  • Multi-byte characters are supported.

Security recommendation

Although no strict composition rules are enforced, Barco strongly recommends using a combination of:

  • Letters
  • Numbers
  • Special characters
  • (Optionally) spaces and multi-byte characters

This helps to:

  • Improve password entropy
  • Reduce the risk of brute-force attacks
  • Strengthen overall system security

Password security validation

When a new administrator password is created or updated, it is automatically validated against a set of built-in security checks

These checks are designed to prevent the use of weak, predictable, or compromised passwords.

Blocked password types

Passwords may be rejected if they match known insecure patterns, including but not limited to:

Known compromised passwords

  • Passwords that have been exposed in publicly known data breaches

Dictionary-based passwords

  • Common words or predictable phrases
  • Frequently used or easily guessable terms

Repetitive or sequential patterns

  • Repeated characters (e.g., aaaaaa)
  • Sequential patterns (e.g., 1234abcd)

Context-specific terms

Passwords that include contextual or identifiable information such as:

  • Username
  • Product or service name
  • Variations or combinations of the above
