Firmware update not working for wePresent

It is advised to update firmware on your wePresent from time to time. Sometimes there will be crucial firmware updates that may be required in order for your wePresent to maintain it's cross-platform compatibility. Some of the wePresent units support an Auto Firmware Update option in the Admin panel, with which you can check for the latest update. (The Auto Firmware Update function is not working any more after 2025 May, because of the FTP security concern. Refer to KB 15302.) The latest available firmware update can always be found on barco.com.

Firmware update not working

It may happen that your firmware will not upload to your wePresent unit. Your wePresent may give you an error notification with info what is going wrong. Please see the following possible bottlenecks:

Web Browser doesn't upload file

If your wePresent doesn't give you an error notification or starts the actual firmware upgrade process, this may be caused by an incompatible web browser. Please do not use MS Internet Explorer or Edge web browser. 

Upgrade failed: Device is Busy

This notification may come up when your wePresent has been used before you tried the firmware update. If that is the case, your wePresent will not have its full internal memory available to perform the update. 
Therefore, either make sure that your wePresent has not been used and that there are no users actively logged in (started MirrorOp), or simply power cycle your wePresent, before you perform the update on the IP web page.

Upgrade failed: Invalid image file

If your wePresent mentions "invalid image file" please make sure that you have downloaded the correct firmware that matches your wePresent model. The firmware on our website is offered in a .zip file, please make sure that you unpack this zip file before you upload the real firmware file.

Upgrade failed: Failed to upload firmware file (timeout)

You will get this notification when it takes too long for your web browser to upload the firmware file to the wePresent's IP. This might be due to a limited bandwidth connection, a bad wireless connection, or busy/restricted network traffic. Please check your network settings and restrictions to make sure that you have a solid IP connection to the wePresent's IP web page. When you think your network is causing complications, then disconnect wePresent from your network and please make a straight LAN, or WLAN connection from your computer to wePresent.

Older wePresent hardware

In general, you can only upgrade your wePresent to the latest firmware if your current firmware version matches the firmware series. For example, you can only upgrade to a firmware version 2.x.x.x. if the original firmware in your wePresent is also the 2.x.x.x.-series. When you expect this is the case for you, please consult our Support Team for more information.

To perform upgrade safely:

  • Power cycle your wePresent
  • Visit the IP web page in your web browser (Chrome/Firefox/Safari)
  • Extract (correct) firmware file from the .zip file 
  • Upload the firmware file
