Our focus today is on offering the best possible support for x86/x64-based versions of Windows and macOS, as they represent the vast majority of the market. That's why the ClickShare App, ClickShare Extension Pack, and ClickShare Windows driver are only being developed for x86/x64-based architectures. This means there's no official support for ARM-based devices like the Microsoft Surface Pro X or Apple M-processor macOS devices.
On Apple M-processor macOS devices, the Rosetta x86 emulator (Big Sur 11.2 and higher) enables the ClickShare App to be installed. Both content sharing and wireless conferencing work with the ClickShare Button. The installation of the Rosetta emulator will be triggered when the ClickShare App is first started on devices where it is not yet installed.
Note: Please make sure to install the Rosetta emulator when prompted on ARM-powered Mac devices: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211861.
On Microsoft Surface Pro X type devices, you can use the x86 emulator engine for the ClickShare APP. You do still require the ClickShare APP to be installed in order to use the button as there is no dedicated ClickShare Windows Driver for ARM.
In case you are facing issues using ClickShare in combination with your ARM-based device. Please submit a service ticket with following additional information in order to better understand the issue.
-
Include the device brand, model, OS version.
-
Please describe in detail the issue(s) you are facing.
-
Is there a specific reason why you are not able to use the emulator to run non-ARM-supported applications?
See KB 6024 for information how to log service ticket.
⚠️ Note (End of Rosetta Support)
On Apple M‑series devices, the ClickShare Desktop App currently runs using Apple’s Rosetta 2 translation layer. Apple has announced that Rosetta will be removed in macOS 27 and later. When this happens, the Desktop App will no longer function unless updated for native Apple Silicon.
Barco is working on a native ARM version of the ClickShare App to ensure continued support. For details, see Apple end of Rosetta support and impact on the ClickShare App.
