DPMS MODE
VESA Display Power Management Signaling (or DPMS) is a VESA standard that manages monitor power states to reduce energy consumption. Common use cases include turning off or placing the monitor in standby after a period of inactivity.
Many commercial displays, including Barco models, incorporate DPMS technology to optimize performance and extend display life.
Benefits for Barco Displays
Extend Backlight Life
Over time, display backlights naturally dim. Using DPMS and workstation power-saving settings helps turn off the display during idle periods, reducing wear and slowing this process.
Prevent Image Burn-In
Proper DPMS usage combined with screensavers prevents permanent image retention on your display.
Recommended Settings
- Enable DPMS on both your Barco display and your workstation.
- Activate DPMS after 20 minutes of inactivity.
- Enable a screensaver after 5 minutes, as required by Barco’s warranty policy.
To configure DPMS on your workstation:
- Navigate to Power Options in your operating system.
- Ensure DPMS is active for both logged-in and logged-out states.
- Consult your IT department if policies restrict these settings.
Refer to your Barco Display User Guide for detailed instructions on enabling/disabling DPMS.
QAWeb Enterprise and DPMS
When the QAWeb Enterprise Agent is installed on the workstation:
- DPMS is enabled by default on Barco displays.
- QAWeb Enterprise does not provide an option to disable DPMS (unlike Medical QAWeb).
HIBERNATE OPTION
When DPMS is active, you can enable Hibernate for deeper power savings:
- Hibernate disables the backlight and additional functions to minimize power consumption.
- Activation occurs after a configurable period of inactivity.
- Instructions for enabling Hibernate are available in your Barco Display User Guide.
Barco warranty policy
- Screensaver: Activate after 5 minutes of non-use.
- Display Off: Ensure displays turn off after 20 minutes of inactivity.
- Test with different user accounts.
- Verify IT policies and adjust as needed.
- Configure settings for both logged-in and logged-out states.
