How to install the ClickShare USB‑C Extension over CAT kit with the ClickShare Control Panel and Hub

The ClickShare USB‑C Extension over CAT kit (part number: R9861625) provides a reliable long‑distance link between the ClickShare Control Panel and the ClickShare Hub, as well as between a user's laptop and the ClickShare Hub or ClickShare CX-50 Gen2 for wired content sharing in large meeting room environments.

In addition to providing a stable wired content‑sharing over link extended distances, the extension kit can deliver up to 90 W of USB‑C power to charge a connected laptop when connected to an external USB‑C power supply.

Note: Wired content sharing is supported. Support for Wired RoomDock on the ClickShare Hub will be introduced in a future Hub firmware release.

Kit components

 
  • 1 x Transmitter (Tx)
  • 1 x Receiver (Rx)
  • 2 x USB-C cables (1.2 m each)

Supported use cases

  1. ClickShare Hub ↔ ClickShare Control Panel
    Extends the Control Panel connection to the ClickShare Hub over CAT cabling.
  2. ClickShare Hub / CX-50 Gen2 ↔ Laptop for wired content sharing
    Provides wired content sharing between a user's laptop and the ClickShare Hub over extended distances.
  3. ClickShare Hub / CX-50 Gen2 ↔ Laptop for wired content sharing + 90 W laptop charging 
    Provides wired content sharing and up to 90 W laptop charging when an external USB‑C power supply is connected.

How-to: Connection setup


Prerequisites

    • HDBaseT™ certified CAT cable requirements (maximum supported lengths):
      Between ClickShare Hub ↔ Control Panel (Use Case 1)
      • CAT5e / CAT6: up to 60 m
      • CAT6a / CAT7: up to 70 m
      Between ClickShare Hub / CX-50 Gen2 ↔ Laptop (Use Cases 2 & 3 – wired content sharing)
      • CAT5e / CAT6: up to 35 m
      • CAT6a / CAT7: up to 40 m
      Barco recommends using HDBaseT™ certified CAT6a cables. For more information, see HDBaseT™ Cabling: A Guide.
    • 100 W USB‑C power supply (required for Use Case 3 only)

    Notes:

    • CAT cables are not included with the ClickShare USB-C Extension over CAT kit and must be purchased separately.
    • The 100 W USB-C power supply is not included with the kit and is sold separately.


    Use Case 1: Hub ↔ Control Panel

    1. Connect the USB-C port of the Transmitter (Tx) to the Control Panel USB‑C™ port on the Hub using one of the supplied 1.2 m USB‑C cables. (See also).
    2. Connect Transmitter (Tx) to the Receiver (Rx) using a supported CAT cable.
    3. Connect the USB-C port of the Receiver (Rx) to the USB‑C™ port on the ClickShare Control Panel using the second supplied 1.2 m USB‑C cable.

    Use Cases 2 & 3: Hub / CX-50 Gen2 Laptop (wired content sharing, with/without charging)

    1. Connect the USB-C port of the Receiver (Rx) as follow:
      • ClickShare Hub: Connect the USB-C port of the Receiver (Rx) to the wired sharing USB‑C™ port on the Hub using one of the supplied 1.2 m USB‑C cables. (See also).
      • ClickShare CX-50 Gen2: Connect the USB-C port of the Receiver (Rx) to the front USB‑C port on the CX‑50 Gen2 Base Unit using one of the supplied 1.2 m USB‑C cables. (See also).
    2. Connect Transmitter (Tx) to the Receiver (Rx) using a supported CAT cable.
    3. Connect the USB-C port of the Transmitter (Tx) to the USB‑C port of the laptop using the second supplied 1.2 m USB‑C cable.
      Note: The laptop USB‑C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode.
    4. (Use Case 3 and with ClickShare Hub only) Connect the Transmitter (Tx) to a 100 W USB‑C power supply.
    5. For other hardware connections:  Note: For CX-50 Gen2, ensure Input mode = Wired RoomDock is enabled in the ClickShare Configurator before use. Click here for instructions.   

     
     
    Note – Additional Kit: When using Use Cases 2 or 3 with the ClickShare Hub, the ClickShare Control Panel can also be extended over CAT using a second USB‑C Extension over CAT Kit. To support both the laptop and Control Panel connections simultaneously, an additional ClickShare USB‑C Extension over CAT Kit must be purchased and installed separately.
